Event Description:
WHAT IF the world embraced the mysteries of the mind?

An award-winning writer, physician and distinguished psychiatry professor at Brown University is the keynote speaker at 7 p.m. Feb. 12 for the 2019 Medical Humanities Collective, "Coming out of the Fire: Mental Health and Well-Being," a series of Ideas Festival events focused on strategies for improving mental health. Dr. Christine Montross, a professor of psychiatry and human behavior, will speak in Stewart Center's Fowler Hall about the mysteries of the mind, especially when the tools of modern medicine fall short.

Montross will draw from her 2013 book, "Falling into the Fire: A Psychiatrist's Encounters with the Mind in Crisis." The event is aligned with Purdue's Giant Leaps Sesquicentennial Campaign and is part of the Ideas Festival theme, giant leaps in health, longevity and quality of life. The Ideas Festival is the centerpiece of the campaign and connects world-renowned speakers and Purdue expertise in a conversation on the most critical problems and opportunities facing the world. All events, which are free and open to the public, can be live-streamed or recorded.

Live captioning will be available deaf or hearing impaired. The feed will go live 10-15 minutes prior to the start of the event and attendees will need to bring their own device to access the captioning.
